Rune

Terms of Use

Effective November 7, 2026

These terms are between you and Mogen Cheng (“we”), not Apple, and set the rules for using the Rune service. By using Rune, you agree to them. Your license to the Rune app itself comes from Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement. Our Privacy Policy explains how your data is handled.

Who can use Rune

You must be at least 13, or the minimum age to use online services where you live if that’s higher. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. Rune doesn’t ask your age. You need an Apple or Google account to sign in.

What Rune does

Rune translates speech and photos and keeps what you save in your Book. It can also summarize conversations and answer questions about them. Rune needs an internet connection and relies on outside services. Features may change, and Rune may sometimes be unavailable.

Ads

Explore may show sponsored listings from other businesses. We approve each one, but we don’t endorse it. Their offers and websites are their own. Anything you buy from them is between you and them, under their terms, and we don’t guarantee it. Ads and the pages they link to must be suitable for all ages, and we never accept ads for alcohol, tobacco or vaping, gambling or adult content.

Your content

What you record, photograph, choose and type stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and transmit it, including through the outside services described in our Privacy Policy, only as needed to run Rune for you and to show anything you make public. You’re responsible for having the right to use the content you put into Rune.

Recording other people

Tell people before you record them. Laws on recording differ by place, and some require everyone’s consent. You’re responsible for following the laws where you use Rune. Save Audio is off by default, and you can turn it on or off in the You tab > Audio.

Public Runes

You choose what to make public, one Rune at a time. When you do, you give us permission to copy and show that Rune and your public page, in Rune, until you take it back. Only make public what you have the right to share. Public Runes must be suitable for all ages. An ordinary translated menu is fine, drinks included, and we decide the rest in review.

Don’t make public anything that shows someone’s private details, that’s sexual, violent, hateful or illegal, or that isn’t yours to share. Public Runes go up right away unless an automatic check holds them for a person to look at. We can hold or remove anything at any time, and you can ask us to look again.

Public Runes are made by people using Rune or by our official accounts, and translated by AI. They can be wrong or out of date, so don’t rely on one for allergies, medicine or safety. To report one, use Report or contact us.

Official accounts

Accounts with “Official” in their name are run by us, not by real travelers, and they post automatically. AI writes their translations and notes and checks their photos before they go up, so a person may not look at them first, and they don’t go through the automatic check above. Their photos are openly licensed and credited on each post, and each photo stays under its own license, which nothing in these terms limits. To ask us to remove one, use Report or contact us.

Translations can be wrong

Rune uses AI, and AI makes mistakes. Translations, summaries, answers and photo results can be incomplete or incorrect, and can sound confident when they’re wrong.

Use Rune as a guide, not a guarantee. Don’t rely on it alone for allergies, food safety, medicine, medical care, emergencies, legal matters, contracts, money or anything else where a mistake could cause harm. Confirm those things with a qualified person.

What you can’t do

Ending this agreement

You can stop using Rune at any time and delete your account in the You tab > Account > Delete Account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect Rune or other people.

Disclaimers

To the extent the law allows, the Rune service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted service. Your country’s consumer laws may give you rights these terms can’t change.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for losses caused by relying on a translation or other AI result. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, except where your local consumer laws say otherwise.

Changes

If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change is significant. Using Rune after a change means you accept it.
